If you’re quite an active family and instead of relaxing on one of the many Isle of Wight beaches you’d prefer to be doing something, the Island really is the perfect place for you and you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding which attractions to book. To give you an insight into what the Island is able to offer in this regard, below we have looked into some of the best Isle of Wight attractions and days out for active families.

It is likely that you will have never done anything like the tree climbing experience at the award-winning Goodleaf before. This is a unique canopy experience where you can view the world from an entirely new perspective by recreational tree climbing in a stunning mature oak tree in Appley Park. This Isle of Wight attraction is suitable for the whole family and it is a brilliant way to spend a couple of hours.

Tact Isle activity centre

Even if you’re not a seasoned pro and you fancy giving something new a go, the team at Tact Isle will help you make the Island your playground.

Isle of Wight coastal path walk

If you’re really up for an adventure whilst visiting the island, you could tackle the Isle of Wight coastal path walk where you follow a trail around the whole Island. It is 70 miles long, so you will probably want to split the walk over a few days, but if your family enjoys a walking holiday, then it is definitely worth considering. The breathtaking views and picturesque landscapes that you experience along the way make this long walk so worthwhile.

Red squirrel cycle trail

Whilst there is an around the Island cycle trail too, if you’d prefer to go on a shorter cycle trail one day during your holiday, then the red squirrel trail is really popular amongst families. There are lots of places to hire bikes on the Isle of Wight and this trail is ideal for all cycling abilities. Many active families like this trail because it has next to no traffic and most of the path is rough terrain. Remember to keep an eye out for the island’s native red squirrels as you cycle.

Island Riding School

This is one of the best riding facilities in the South of England and even if you’re a novice horse rider, it is likely that the beach hacks and trail rides offered by the Island Riding School will interest you. The Island is known for its sandy beaches and its beautiful countryside, and there is no better way to explore these than on horseback. The whole family can enjoy riding a horse through the waves or forest paths and it will be an amazing experience.

In the seaside town Sandown right on the beachfront, you will find Sandham Gardens. This park is a popular Isle of Wight attraction as it offers a range of exciting activities, from go-karting to mini golf, but if you’re an active family then you have to try the Skynets here.
