Swim the Wight is a social enterprise that has been set up offering swimming experiences on the Isle of Wight. Woodlands are a wonderful place to walk in the winter, with crisp leaves underfoot, or downlands, with their spectacular views across the island and the sea. Here are a few ideas. Brighstone Forest is a good place for a walk and easily accessible. Just park at Jubilee car park and turn right after the gate onto the downs. Parkhurst Forest is similarly coniferous with tall trees and the smell of pine on the fresh air. There’s a main car park off of Forest Road, but you can also drive up to Marks Corner where the forest is more deciduous and there are

For a wild windswept walk along the coast, nothing can beat Compton or Brook beaches, but these can get crowded, especially during lockdown. For a change why not try Grange Chine at Brighstone, Chilton Chine, next to Isle of Wight Pearl, or Shepherd’s Chine at Atherfield. If you’re driving there, be sure to park safely. Yaverland beach has a huge car park, and a wide expanse of firm sand at low tide. Probably best to avoid walking under the cliffs, especially at this time of year.
