Of course, you can holiday on a budget, and it is fairly easy to do so when you visit the Isle of Wight, but generally speaking, there are many different expenses associated with a trip away.
Thankfully, when you’re visiting the Island, if you’re wanting to keep your daily costs down, it is really easy to do so because there are a number of incredible places to visit and things to do that are completely free. If you’re currently planning a budget-friendly trip and you’re wanting to reduce your expenses, below are a few different brilliant Isle of Wight attractions that you won’t have to pay a penny for.
Ventnor park
This is known as a ‘park for the people’ and there is plenty to do at this award-winning park. Not only is it beautiful to wander around, but there is a putting green, table tennis and bandstand too. If you’re visiting between April and September, you can enjoy live music here every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday at 2 pm, so it is a brilliant place to come in the summer.
Donkey Sanctuary
Home to 97 donkeys and 26 ponies, all of whom are either rescued or abandoned, the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary is a brilliant place to visit. Situated in the Wroxall valley, you can see these beautiful animals in their new home. Whilst the car park and admission to the sanctuary is free, if you’re able to provide a donation it is always appreciated.
Quarr Abbey
Quarr Abbey is a monastery and it is home to a small group of Benedictine monks, but it is open to visitors. With a visitors centre, a tea shop, a gallery and a farm shop on-site, you can easily spend a few hours here. The Abbey even keeps pigs and hens that you can visit and they offer guided tours too. Even if you just stroll through the gardens and grounds, it is worth visiting.
The Needles Battery
May come to the Island to see the needles and this is one of the most well-known Isle of Wight attractions, but perched high above them is both the old and new battery. The new battery is free to visitors and the old battery is free to National Trust members, so it’s worth heading up here, even if it is just to get an incredible view of the Needles lighthouse.
The Garlic Farm
The Garlic Farm is also free to enter and it is situated in the picturesque farmland in the Arreton Valley. Not only can you explore the farm, but they also offer free tasters of all their fresh products too, so you can fully immerse yourself and indulge all of your senses. They also offer guided tours as well, so you can climb upon a tractor-trailer and learn all about garlic growing.
Ventnor paddling pool
This is one of the best Isle of Wight attractions for children and you can guarantee that they will love spending time here. You’ll find the Ventnor paddling pool at the bottom of the Cascade, which is a lovely public garden, and whilst it is one of a few free paddling pools around the Island, it is probably the most popular.
