Activities for adults on the Isle of Wight this Christmas

Fear not, for there are events to attend this Christmas with your friends, all with Covid restrictions for your safety. We’ve put together five of the best.

Undercover Christmas Club

It’s 1647, and celebrating Christmas is banned, carols are criminal and turkey’s taboo in this riotous musical comedy created and performed by Riddlestick Theatre at St Catherines’s Church in Ventnor. A motley troupe of rebellious performers host a secret, late-night Christmas party against the backdrop of Puritan bans on theatres and celebrating Christmas. In fact, festivities of any kind are forbidden – sound familiar?

Performances are Thursday 17th and Friday 18th December. Tickets from Ventnor Exchange – £12 with under 25s £5, and Fringe Friends 2 for 1.

Marilyn Stafford photos at Dimbola

Iconic fashion photographs from the streets of Paris in the 1950s to the swinging London of the 1960s and 70s. Marilyn Stafford shot to international acclaim after her work documenting Algerian refugees in Tunisia famously made the front page of The Observer in 1958, bringing their plight to world attention. Her documentation of the ready-to-wear fashion revolution is documented in this exhibition, which runs from December 4th to 31st in the Olympus Gallery.

Boxing Day Specials at the Steam Railway

After over-indulging on Christmas Day, get the family out on a steam train ride through the countryside on Boxing Day. Or just enjoy a romantic Victorian adventure with the one you love. The Isle of Wight Steam Railway’s Boxing Day Specials take you on a ten-mile round-trip through the Island’s unspoilt winter landscape, and you get a mince pie and warming drink on your return to Havenstreet.

Trains depart Havenstreet at 10:10, 10.50, 11:35, 12:13, 13:15, 13:53 and 14:38.
