Retro Staycations’ Wight Buggin’ Event Triumphs with Record-Breaking Turnout

Retro Staycations is thrilled to announce the overwhelming success of its annual Wight Buggin’ event, which took place from September 15th to 17th at their picturesque farm site in Ryde. This year’s event witnessed an unprecedented increase in attendance, more than doubling the turnout from its debut last year, as enthusiasts of all ages flocked to experience the ultimate Volkswagen camper van celebration.

Wight Buggin’ is fast becoming a cherished end-of-season tradition, celebrating the unique charm of VW camper vans against the backdrop of the stunning Isle of Wight countryside. The 2023 edition of the event maintained its reputation for creating an inclusive, family-friendly atmosphere and a superb opportunity to hang-out with the V-Dubbers.

Highlights of the event included a sprawling campout, where a diverse array of VW camper vans congregated, showcasing their distinctive styles and features. From T4 and T5 vans, to classic retro campers, attendees revelled in the relaxed endless Summer vibe, as they shared stories and enjoyed camaraderie around the campfire.

Day visitors were treated to a display of vintage and unique vehicles, including VW Beetles, Mk1 Golfs, motorbikes and scooters alike, displayed alongside Retro Staycations own unique collection of American Airstream caravans and big yellow School Bus, piquing the interest of car enthusiasts and history buffs alike. The eclectic mix of vehicles on display provided a fascinating journey through automotive history, with something for everyone to enjoy.

The event featured a lineup of acts performing on an iconic Airstream stage. Music was provided by vintage rock ‘n’ roll trio The Redcatz, ‘60s band Island Vibe, Platform One student Amy Jolliffe, ‘90s duo The Sirens, Charlene Duncan and DJ Dean Price.

Food lovers enjoyed an array of culinary delights, with local food vendors and traders offering a delectable range of hot dishes, sweet treats and beverages. There was also a variety of market stalls including Vincent’s Motorcycles and Antiques, kids crafts and a monster truck bouncy castle.

Retro Staycations and the Jack Up Events team would like to extend their thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to the success of Wight Buggin’ 2023, with special thanks to the Wight Dubbers group. The overwhelming support from the VW camper van community, local talent, Island businesses and the ferry companies has solidified the event’s status as a highlight of the Isle of Wight’s annual events calendar.
