Rescue milestone for Monkey Haven

Monkey Haven Primate Rescue has announced the upcoming arrival of five pig tailed macaques, marking a major rescue milestone during Macaque Week.

The group originates from an unlicensed private zoo that was closed down by authorities. Following their rescue, they were transferred to AAP Rescue Centre, where they have since received specialist care and remained together as a social family group.

The troop includes an adult breeding pair, their two offspring, and an unrelated female with a separate rescue background involving confiscation during suspected illegal transport.

This rescue highlights the complex and often challenging circumstances many primates face, as well as the importance of coordinated efforts between rescue organisations across Europe.

The macaques are expected to arrive at Monkey Haven towards the end of May, where they will be provided with a permanent, safe and enriched environment tailored to their needs.

Throughout Macaque Week, Monkey Haven will be sharing the individual stories of each macaque to raise awareness of primate welfare and the ongoing need for rescue and rehabilitation.
