NEW ride ‘EXTINCTION’: Blackgang’s latest thrill
Blackgang Chine, the Isle of Wight’s popular theme park, is set to launch its latest attraction ‘Extinction’ on Saturday March 25, 2023.
The amusement park celebrates its 180th anniversary this year.
‘Extinction’ is a unique, heart-stopping pendulum swing that combines with a full 360-degree vertical rotation, giving riders an immersive experience that takes them to the edge of extinction.
Blackgang Chine, the UK’s oldest theme park located on the Isle of Wight, is excited to announce the launch of its newest attraction, ‘Extinction’.
From Saturday March 25 2023, Blackgang Chine’s visitors will have the chance to experience the hair-raising pendulum swing that reaches heights of 18 meters, almost double the height of the famous Blackgang Smuggler, and equal to four double-decker buses.
An immersive experience that takes visitors to the edge, Extinction is the first-of-its-kind ride in this unparalleled location – set back from a cliff-edge on the Isle of Wight. Extinction is the marker of a new era for Blackgang Chine, the largest of the rides within the park, it’s a thrilling addition to their well-loved program.
The ride throws its passengers, full of anticipation, forward before completing full 360-degree vertical rotations, creating the sensation that you’re about to be catapulted off Blackgang’s cliffs and into the sea. Riders will have the chance to take in the breath-taking views across the Channel, which they can enjoy in the brief moments between screaming. Although that view may be upside down…

This is especially vital in the current climate where we have a cost-of-living crisis in the UK and the travel industry is still in a period of recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.”
‘Extinction’ was designed and built by Zamperla; a leading manufacturer of amusement rides based in Italy. Zamperla has a reputation for creating some of the most innovative and exciting rides in the world, and ‘Extinction’ is no exception. Some of their most notable creations include the Thunderbolt, a steel roller coaster with multiple inversions located at Coney Beach in Porthcawl, Wales; and the Disk’O Coaster, a high-speed spinning ride that also tilts and lifts at Lightwater Valley in North Yorkshire, England.
‘Extinction’ opens on March 25, 2023, and Blackgang Chine will be hosting a competition for its FVP’s to be the first riders – both on the full 360 experience, and the tamer swing experience.
