Legendary Broadcaster Celebrates 60 Year TV Anniversary Milestone with a Special One-Off Show on the Isle of Wight

Legendary Broadcaster Celebrates 60 Year TV Anniversary Milestone with a Special One-Off Show on the Isle of Wight

With a career spanning six decades, Fred Dinenage has earned his place as one of Britain’s most beloved broadcasters.

His journey in television commenced in 1964. Fast forward 60 years and 2024 marks Fred’s sixtieth anniversary as a revered reporter and TV presenter. To celebrate this incredible milestone, Jack Up Events are inviting Islanders to celebrate with the man himself – in person – at Shanklin Theatre on Saturday 2nd November.

Audiences will fondly remember his association with Southern Television, and its subsequent incarnations as TVS and Meridian Broadcasting, which remain a defining thread of Fred’s professional life. He is also well known popular programs such as “Tell The Truth,” “How” (and its successor, “How 2”) and for his time as the face of news on “Coast To Coast” and later “Meridian Tonight” for ITV Meridian.

After a remarkable 39-year tenure presenting ITV regional news across the South, Fred remains a much-loved local figure, however, his contributions extend beyond regional television. His diverse portfolio includes hosting quiz shows like “Pass The Buck” on the BBC and “Gambit” on Anglia. He showcased his passion for regional sports while working with Yorkshire Television, occasionally gracing the screens of ITV’s Saturday afternoon staple, “World of Sport,” and even testing his wits as a team captain on the ITV game show “Never Had It So Good.”

In 2010 Fred was awarded an MBE for his services to Broadcasting.

More latterly, Fred ventured into the world of crime documentaries with “Fred Dinenage: Murder Casebook,” a series that delves into 20th-century murders and captivates audiences on the Crime & Investigation Network, along with “Britain’s Most Evil Killers” currently airing on Sky Crime. As the official biographer to the Kray twins, 82-year-old Fred is currently touring the country with his theatre show “Ronnie, Reggie & Me” hosted by Island broadcaster Alex Dyke.

During this special 60-year anniversary show, the warm and witty Fred will take audiences on an enjoyable journey through his illustrious career featuring many magnificent moments down TV memory lane.

Hear fascinating stories from behind the scenes of many shows and stars that will surprise and entertain you. This includes rare and recently found archive treasures from The Beatles, Morecambe & Wise, Sid James, and Crossroads’ Noele Gordon… among many more.

For the first time, Fred will also share the truth behind the moments when it wasn’t always “alright on the night” with his hand-picked bloopers and gaffs.

From black and white to colour… Fred was there!

Tickets are £22.50 including booking fee. Buy online here or via the theatre box office.
