Ventnor has a beautiful, gently sloping beach of sand and fine shingle set in a sheltered bay. The southernmost beach on the Isle of Wight the beach is popular all year round but is more tranquil than the larger resorts even at the height of the summer season. Nestled in the bay beneath the tumbling tiers of the Victorian town, this red shingle and golden sand beach has vintage beach huts which can be hired on a daily basis from the hut on the seawall, as can deckchairs, sun loungers and windbreaks, which are hammered into the sand for you with an old wooden mallet. Along the seafront, there are a small number of shops, amusements, cafes and restaurants as well as a family public house serving food.
Close by at the foot of the Cascade is the famous Isle of Wight paddling pool, a giant replica of the Isle of Wight map showing all the major towns and roads, that has entertained children for over 100 years. Next to it is a restaurant serving great all day breakfasts as well as lunches and snacks.
There are a limited number of car parking spaces along the beach front but a large car park is located at the South West end of the beach. At low tide, a ridge of rocks appears from beneath the waves making a great place for children to explore, from the middle of the beach a channel has been cleared by fishermen long ago making it a great place to swim as it is free from rocks.
There are restrictions in place on the Isle of Wight’s main resort beaches between 1st May and 30th September which prevents dogs being allowed to use them. However, outside of this season dogs are welcomed as with any of the other beaches.
