Park in Brook Chine National Trust Car Park and walk back to the road turning into Brook village, through field to east of car park. Walk up Brook Village Road and take first left, into Coastguard Lane, and follow track past the coastguard cottages.
When tarmac ends, continue on the track signposted ‘BS87 Shippards Chine’, through a field gate, past a pond and through another field gate. Opposite the entrance to Compton Grange, turn right onto the footpath signposted ‘BS48 Dunsbury Farm and the Downs’ and head and head up the field to a crossing track about 110yds (100m) before the fence line.
Turn left along the track and reaching Dunsbury Grange, turn right through a gate and head steeply up the field keeping close to the fence on your right. Turn right after crossing the stile on the ridge, go onwards through a field gate and keep to the left of ridge top. Carry on through another two gates and turn right after the gate on ‘BS86 Dunsbury’. When the main track bears left and descends, keep on the higher-level grassy path. Head downhill to Dunsbury Farm with hedges on both sides.
Pass through two field gates and turn right onto the tarmac farm track, then quickly left after just 40yds (40m) between the buildings, signposted ‘BS102 Hamstead Trail’. The tarmac track bends left then right, heading gently downhill with buildings on both sides. Take the next left and go between hedges to a T-junction with a seat.
Turn right here along BS107 to follow the bridleway down a sunken lane, eventually reaching Badger Lane. Bear right and follow the lane into Brook Village. Turn left to visit the village or follow the trail by turning right along the road back to the Military Road and Brook Chine car park.
