Shanklin Beach is a one of the Isle of Wight’s best-known beaches with long stretches of golden sand and a gently sloping shore it is ideal for sunbathing or swimming. Shanklin Beach is over a mile long in total so there is plenty of space even in the height of the summer season, it has a traditional ‘bucket & spade’ atmosphere and currently holds a Seaside award. The Esplanade is separated from the beach by a high sea wall and here you will find a range of shops selling all you need for a day by the sea. There are a number of cafes around for those wanting to eat out and if you tire of sunbathing and swimming you can try your hand at crazy golf, bowling, arcades, go-carting and for the little ones there are some great indoor play areas.

Shanklin Beach lost its pier after the hurricane of 1987 but there is now a semi-circular vantage point with benches where the entrance to the pier once stood. The seafront has ticketed parking and there is a good sized car park about halfway along the front. For those staying at one of the cliff top accommodations, the Shanklin lift offers the perfect quick and easy route down to the beach. There are restrictions in place on the Isle of Wight’s main resort beaches between 1st May and 30th September which prevents dogs being allowed to use them. However, outside of this season dogs are welcomed as with any of the other beaches.
