Ryde Beach offer miles and miles of sandy shores reaching so far out that Ryde pier had to be built to enable boats to dock and load/disembark passengers. At low tide vast areas of the sandy beach are exposed – ideal for games or simply relaxing. However, the tide turns very quickly here – sometimes cutting off unwary visitors who wander too far out. Those who are familiar with the tides regularly take advantage of the wide expanses of sandy beach for horse riding and dog-walking (out of season). A promenade stretches from the hovercraft terminal, next to Ryde railway station at the foot of the pier, eastwards passing the harbour. Then the pleasure beaches begin, stretching down past the impressive Appley Tower and on to Puckpool. There are many entrance points along the beach and great facilities such as deckchairs, sun loungers, windbreaks hire plus numerous shops and cafes to providing everything you need for a great day at the beach Water sports are popular towards the eastern end, especially kite-surfing.

The stretch of sands at Ryde offers fantastic views from the Isle of Wight across the Solent to Portsmouth, with the landmark Spinnaker Tower forming an impressive backdrop from which to watch ocean-going liners sailing from Southampton out to sea. From here you also get great views across to two of the 19th Century Solent defence forts, Spitbank Fort and Horse Sand Fort. Nearer the pier is a number of attractions for when you need a break from sunbathing and further east you encounter the large boating lake, the indoor/outdoor swimming pool and waterside. Ryde’s East Beach currently holds a Seaside Award. Dogs: There are restrictions in place on the Isle of Wight’s main resort beaches between 1st May and 30th Septemberwhich prevents dogs being allowed to use them. However, outside of this season dogs are welcomed as with any of the other beaches.
