Brook Beach, Isle of Wight

An unspoiled beach of golden sand adjacent to the popular Compton Bay with rugged coastline and stunning views.  Brook beach is a great beach for many activities either on the beach or in the water and is very popular with kite surfers.  A great places for swimming although rocky in places so worth an investment in some good water shoes. Brook beach is a must for those fossil hunters and dinosaur enthusiasts as here you will find a *fossilised forest of huge trees which appears from beneath the waves at Hanover Point at low tide. Beyond this is a sandstone ledge with the fossilised footprints of dinosaurs and further to the back of the beach close to the cliffs fossils can also be found amongst the pebbles along with the further dinosaur footprints casts into the rocks. Experts have discovered at least two, if not three, different types of dinosaur footprints in the sandstone ledge that cross one another, travelling in different directions – for those who have not brushed up on their dinosaur footprints, guides run services most days out to these spots to talk you through the finds.

There is a National Trust Car Park serving Brook Beach, but there are no additional facilities. A stony road/slipway leads to the beach from the car park. * The fossilised trees which make up the forest resemble large lumps of coal and are embedded with iron pyrites or fools gold making them a real treat for both the young and old alike.
