Located on the southern side of the island, sheltered by St Boniface downs Ventnor benefits from its own microclimate; the well known Botanical gardens are a haven for a variety of flora and fauna, many species of which are only found in Mediterranean countries. From the Esplanade you can take a level walk, along the seawall to the pretty village of Bonchurch with its literary history, wildlife pond and popular Bonchurch Inn. In the opposite direction, from ‘La Falaise’ car park, stroll along the cliff path to Steephill Cove, a beautiful sheltered bay with much charm including deck chairs for hire; various cafes offering fantastic locally caught fish and seafood; great crabbing and where tea/coffee is still served in a “Steephill Cove” mug.
