The Stag is a family run pub in the heart of the Island. The Stag prides it-selves on their freshly prepared pubs grub using local products and ingredients to give you the full Island experience.
Located at the top of Horsebridge Hill between West Cowes and Newport. They’re location is not too far away from Newport town centre which gives you the freedom to travel all over the Island and take in the Islands wonders of beautiful sea views, countryside and activities.

There are many things you can do within walking distance of the pub. Just at the bottom of Stag Lane there is a cycle path which can take you either to Newport or West Cowes along the stunning Medina River with the possible sighting of the Island’s famous red squirrels. Parkhurst forest is around a 30 minute walk where you can walked the complete loop or visit The Red Squirrel Trail which is the former stream rail line.
Stuart manages every aspect of his business with the help of his wife and mum. Stuart grew up on the Island working and learning the trade from his parents who ran many different places while he was a child. The Island was where he was lucky enough to meet his wife Sally after many years of running pubs in Scotland and a tapas bar in Spain they decided to come back to Stuart’s roots and take over their own pub on the Island so they relocated to The Stag.
At The Stag, everyone is welcome even our four legged friends.
The Stag boasts a wide variety of freshly prepared dishes, as well as a daily changing specials board. The menu includes a range of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan meals. Stuart and the team will always go out of their way to ensure a customer is well looked after, often rustling up bespoke dishes dependant on tastes. He’s even had tourists asking for a dish they had the previous season, to which he obliges!
They serve a range of pub classics alongside their ‘Stag Specials’ – including a range of homemade burgers, curry and desserts. There’s even a nod to Stuart’s homeland; chicken and haggis and the haggis tattie tower! Often customers will travel across the Island for their signature burger specials, which change daily.
As for all traditional pubs, The Stag also offer a full Sunday roast, including a gluten free, veggie option. They always have 3 different meats available, along with all the various trimmings one could hope for.
Also available on certain days are great offers – from curry night and fish Friday’s – all current promotions can be found on the social media pages.
Their bar boasts a huge range of draught and bottled beers, with a selection of local specials from Goddards, Island Ales and other local breweries changing regularly, alongside a great selection of gin including an Isle of Wight brand – Mermaid.
