The Wight Proms

A brand-new annual festival of open-air picnic concerts celebrating the Isle of Wight’s music, food, people & red squirrels.

There has never been a music festival quite like this on the Isle of Wight, catering to lovers of both classical music and musical theatre and offering free arts workshops.

Thursday 16th August 2018 – Musical Theatre Worshops

Musical Theatre Workshop:12:00-15:00 (Ages 7-11)
Musical Theatre Workshop: 16:00-19:00 (Ages 12-18)
The aim of this workshop is to inspire the next generation of budding young performers, by transporting them into the world of musical theatre. Those involved will learn a song (from a musical currently showing in London’s West End) during this workshop, which will involve singing and dancing. They will then perform the song at ‘Wight at the Musicals’ on 18th August as part of The Wight Proms.

Friday 17th August 2018 – Percussion & Drumming Workshops

Boomwhackers & Bamboo Tamboo Workshop: 12:00 13:00 (Ages 6-11)
Have some noisy fun with these easy to play plastic tubes. Explore whole group composition, incorporating upbeat Caribbean rhythms that will get your hands & feet moving!

STOMP-style Body Percussion Workshop: 14:00 15:00 (Ages 8-13)
Who knew you could make so many sounds just by hitting yourself! Following some fun rhythmic warms ups, this workshop will incorporate participants’ own ideas to create a brandnew
body percussion routine!

Samba Drumming Workshop: 15:15 16:15 (Ages 8-13)
Create the spirit of Rio on the Isle of Wight! Participants will have the opportunity to learn a number of fun, energetic rhythms on authentic Brazilian percussion instruments.

STOMP-style Body Percussion Workshop: 16:30 17:30 (Ages 14+ including adults)

Be transported to the world of musical theatre with hit songs from the West End and Broadway.

Sunday 19th August 2018 – ‘Last Wight of the Proms’
A rousing celebration of British music and flag-waving, including Pomp & Circumstance, Jerusalem and many more.
