Isle of Wight Pride

Isle of Wight Pride is proud to be hosting UK Pride 2018 and will be held in Ryde on Saturday 21st July 2018.

In October 2017 Isle of Wight Pride beat the stiff competition at the UK Pride Organisers Network conference to win the right to host UK Pride 2018.

Pride events are a strong reminder to those who identify as LGBTQ who have lived through countless historical struggles including criminalisation of homosexuality, the AIDS epidemic, Section 28, and the prejudice and abuse felt by so many as they struggle to take pride in who they were born to be.

For many years, the LGBT community of the Isle of Wight has kept a little secret hidden from the rest of the world. An idyllic retreat off the South Coast of England has become home to many LGBT individuals, couples, families and their children. Those who have moved away from the Island still hold fond memories of its diverse beautiful landscape.

Isle of Wight Pride 2018 plays host to UKPride and we are putting on a BIG beach party and you are invited!

Isle of Wight Pride takes place on 21st July and starts with our HUGE parade taking place through the heart of Ryde on the Isle of Wight. Come and join us for our Parade, or join us for our main Pride event which takes place on Ryde Harbour beach, a stone’s throw from vital transport links to the rest of the UK.

Pre-registration is free but essential to attend the main Pride event, the only Pride event in the UK which takes place on a sandy beach. The Island also plays host to ‘ukpride’ in 2018. You will be invited to join us in raising awareness of LGBT issues across the world, celebrating how far we have come as a Nation, but recognising places that are not as fortunate. We will also be raising awareness of Bi-Phobia, Bi-Erasure and Transphobia during our event, whilst celebrating 40 years of the Rainbow flag, ensuring that all members of the LGBT community under the Rainbow banner feel welcome and included.

However you get to the Island, we recommend extending your visit and staying for a few days. With lots going on throughout the week, why not take advantage of our Holiday Island and stay and explore whilst you are here. Leave the car at home and take advantage of special deals on our public transport throughout the weekend.

Follow our website for full details of our Pride event. Why not also look into our special VIP packages available and make Pride 2018 an event to remember.

Registration is free but essential. Pride is grateful to our Headline sponsors and supporters who ensure that we can maintain Pride as a free event. If you are able to, please feel free to donate towards the event to help us put on the best possible event for everyone as possible. In only our second ever year as an organisation, we have become a registered Charity and our Charitable aims can be found on our website. UK Pride status does not provide us with any extra funding, money or staff. Therefore every donation to our Charity really does count towards putting on an event to make the UK proud! xx
