Bembridge Village Stroll Approx. 2 miles 1 ½ hours – 1 steep path
Pilot Boat Public House. Follow the track between the Pub and the Public Toilets with the dentist on the left. This path has a steep gradient. At the end towards the High Street, turn right onto High Street. The footpath ends here. (Note: New Highway Code guideline – walk the same way as traffic). At the left-hand bend:
Option 1: If wet, follow the road to Steyne crossroads, straight onto Hillway Road, turning left into Howgate Road. Walk full length of Howgate Road, picking up the public footpath at the rear of Warners Hotel, continue on the footpath to Crab & Lobster
Option 2: Cross the road into the entrance to Bembridge Windmill (stop off at Windmill) continue down the path. At the bottom, turn left through the copse and across Sandown Road (careful, busy) over the stile and follow the path (Steyne Fort to left, Caravan Park to right).
Onto Hillway Road, turn left then right, onto public footpath around the school (muddy) and down to Crab & Lobster. At Crab & Lobster Public House:
Option 1: If the tide is out, walk down the steps onto the beach, turn left, around the head, past the Lifeboat house round to the entrance to the harbour, Tollgate café and back to Pilot Boat Inn.
Option 2: If the tide is in, follow public footpath signs onto Howgate Rd, to the rear of Warners Hotel, follow unadopted roads and footpaths back down to the Pilot Boat. Produced and Printed by Bembridge Village Partnership
