The Wight – The IOW Hotel That’s Really Going Places!

One of the most popular hotels on the Island – clients return again and again. Managed with real enthusiasm – the many innovations, amenities, great food and service make The Wight the place to holiday or take a short break on our beautiful Island of Wight!

All 41 bedrooms (each already fitted with flat screen freeview TV with DVD, hairdryer, hospitality tray and digital safe) have now been refurnished, re-carpeted, redecorated and fitted with “blackout” curtains. During the 10/11 Winter all public areas of the hotel (Dining Room, Bar, Lounges, Stairs and Corridors) were also re-carpeted and a good start made on giving the “front of house” a major modernising facelift. During Winter 11/12 works to the remaining areas of the Dining Room and the “entertainment” end of the Bar were concluded and dimmable LED lighting installed. Tower fans have now been added to our already well equipped bedrooms and free Wifi is available, not only in all public areas but also in the vast majority of bedrooms.

We do not have sea views. Instead we are set in secluded grounds of 2 acres – thus avoiding night-time noise from the High Street and Esplanade. Yet the Wight is but 2 minutes very gentle stroll from the Sea and Sandown beach, possibly another minute to the shops. And come rain or shine The Wight’s many in-house amenities will guarantee the enjoyment and success of your holiday!

Unlike many IOW hotels we have sufficient free car parking for every guest – plus a decent sized heated indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, solarium, a small “keep fit” room, games room, dedicated snooker room, sun terrace and – offering all the benefits and style but without the normally associated high cost – our Oasis Spa for massage, facials, waxing. nails etc..

Add a large and pleasant bar with dance floor and entertainment on several nights each week during the season. Enhance with what is probably the best and biggest breakfast menu you have ever experienced. Couple with a 5 course (plus tea or coffee) dinner menu which offers choices for each course. Season with efficient but friendly management and staff. Then quite simply you have found the right IOW hotel – it’s The Wight!

Accommodation

Rooms & Suites Available in The Wight
All of our 41 bedrooms have been re-furnished, re-carpeted, re-decorated, fitted with ”blackout” curtains and new lighting. They vary in style and size from single right through to family suites – some of which are suitable for up to 6. Additionally we also have some superior rooms and even “Four Poster” and Honeymoon suites. But, whatever your requirement or choice, every room has it’s own ensuite facilities, colour TV (flat screen, freeview with DVD and radio) hospitality tray, hairdryer, digital safe and a tower fan. Cleanliness and attention to detail are under the watchful eye of our Housekeeper, Looge McDonald, who trained at the Park Lane Hotel, London and who has been with us for 25 years. N.B. – All bedrooms, indeed the whole hotel and rear grounds, are strictly “No Smoking”.

Restaurant

Our ‘Best of British’ IOW restaurant
Our Restaurant Manageress Wendy Fowler, who has been with the hotel for 10 years, will welcome you to our spacious restaurant which has comfortable seating for 110 diners. It opens for Breakfast at 8.15am (last orders by 9.45am) and for Evening Dinner at 6.30pm (last orders by 8.00pm).

Children may either eat with their parents during that time (choosing from either the adult or child menus) or, if parents prefer, can be served from the children’s menu at 6.00pm – please arrange for early meals with the restaurant staff during breakfast or with Reception at the latest by 5.30pm.

Bar

The Bar at The Wight Hotel
Our bar is open all day and is for the exclusive use of hotel clients and those taking meals in our restaurant, thus avoiding the overcrowding and at times rowdy behavior that often occurs in bars which are open to the general public. Alec Merrick, our very popular Bar Manager for the past 8 years, and his wife Jill ensure that it is stocked to suit most tastes and features an adequate selection of luxury brand whiskies, cognacs, armagnacs etc..
