Location

Shanklin is often referred to as the "gateway" to the Isle of Wight and is undoubtedly looked at as the Islands premier resort. Shanklin offers safe bathing on its miles of golden sandy beaches, which have a blue flag award. The town is also known for its picturesque "Old Village", renowned for the pretty thatched cottages, tea rooms and Shanklin Chine, which is a natural gorge with waterfalls, unusual plants and the exit point for the "Pluto Pipeline", which supplied Allied Forces with much needed fuel.
Shanklin has an excellent range of shops and eateries. There is a good variety of pubs and much to see for all ages groups. For those people not dependant on the car, there is the railway station a few minutes walk away, which provides access from Ryde and the main ferry terminals.
