Visitors & Guests

Group visits to the Abbey, with a monk guide, can be arranged. They include full visits to the pilgrim chapel and the church, and tell you about Saint Benedict, the history of the community, the architecture of the church and the daily life of the monks.

The teashop is available for refreshments and the Abbey shop for books, souvenirs and religious items. Special extended visits can be organised for parties.

Monastic Life

The life of the monks is centred on the praise of God. "Let nothing be put before the work of God," writes St Benedict. Seven times a day worship is offered in the church, and the monks seek to centre their hearts on God through sacred reading and personal prayer.

Work (of various kinds) is an important part of monastic life. The monks also enjoy times of recreation and fellowship. They seek God in community.
