News Letter – Isle of Wight Beginning of June 2013

Wednesday, June 5th, 2013

Morning All,

I trust you all had a good weekend.

I thought I would drop you a line and keep you updated as to what has been happening with isleofwight.com and our guide visitisleofwight.com.

Do You Need a New Website?
Last month we did new websites for Tollgate Cottages and Ruskin Lodge at Freshwater Bay and very nice they look too. If you need a new website, please get in touch with me, as I am able to do bespoke websites from £500 plus VAT. In addition, once the website is “live”, for every person that you recommend to isleofwight.com that proceeds to get a new website, a payment of £50 will be made to you.

Visitisleofwight.com Guide 2013
Well I am so pleased that the sunshine over the weekend has made people think about holidays. The advert that we had in the Sun brought in over 800 guide requests and the traffic through the website reached an all time high of over 9000 Unique Visitors to the site and I am sure that this was as a result of TV coverage of the Round the Island Race and Gaffers in Yarmouth. On line bookings were well up to, so hopefully we can hope to make up on poor visitor numbers at the start of the year caused by the weather.

Guide Sales 2014
I am delighted to say that guide sales for 2014 have been fantastic. The “early bird” offers have been snapped up and we are hoping that the guide is going to be bigger and better than ever, with many reserving additional space following the success of this year’s guide.

Confusion over names.
I would like to clarify a point that has been brought to my attention. Our official guide is called visitisleofwight.com, a domain name I have owned for 8 years so that when people see the guide in Tourist Information Centres, Little Chefs and other distribution points, they deem it to be the official guide for the Tourist Board – Cunning I know, but at the end of the day it showed foresight as I wanted to ensure that business customers that advertise with me have the maximum possible exposure to the General Public.

Now the confusion has arisen because members of the team have been phoning businesses and saying asking if they want to go in the isleofwight.com guide – visitisleofwight.com. We have always had this name and own it and I must clarify that we have no connection with DMO visitisleofwight.co.uk.

As always, if you have an issue, or you would like to discuss anything in this news letter or about improvements or ideas for isleofwight.com, please feel free to get in touch with me on the details below.

Regards,

Kevin Daniells

WIN A HOLIDAY WORTH £1300 POUNDS ON THE BEAUTIFUL ISLE OF WIGHT

Wednesday, May 1st, 2013

We are giving away a holiday in Robin Cottage 19th – 26th July to help raise money for a little girl in the village who has been very sadly left paralysed from the neck down after contracting meningitis.
Her family obviously want to get her back home but have to make very significant changes to their bungalow to make it suitable for her needs which is why they need to raise funds. It is a great cause with a fantastic prize to be won. Wightlink ferries have also donated a return ferry crossing so all in all the offer is worth close around £1,300. It’s fine if someone wins the holiday and wants to give it to a friend or family member and equally if you live on the Island it is also a great opportunity to experience Island life from a different perspective!

Please support if you can and help us spread the word – it’s only a fiver to enter and you will help make a huge difference to a family’s life!

RECORD BREAKING FUNDRAISER FOR THE ISLE OF WIGHT YOUTH TRUST
The Royal, Ventnor, held the fourth annual fundraising gala dinner for the Isle of Wight Youth Trust last Saturday (24/11/12) spectacularly raising over £37,000 which smashed all previous totals!

‘All the gala dinners have been great but this year was exceptional,’ said Eileen Monks, Director of the Isle of Wight Youth Trust. ‘It has been such a difficult time for a lot of small independent charities and having the support of the Royal and Bestival to generate funds, goodwill and raise awareness has been truly heart-warming and uplifting.’

The live auction was conducted by auctioneer Becky Ball from Hose Rhodes & Dickson Auction Room and raised over £10,000. Lots included the very special chance to be side stage for the Sunday mainline act at the Bestival as well as grand tier box at the Albert Hall and the opportunity to have a portrait painted by acclaimed artist Evgeniya Buyanova. A silent auction included lots from artist Matthew Chambers, Goodleaf Tree Climbing, Barefoot on the Beach, Jenny Sprackling, The Garlic Farm, Really Well Made, Wine Therapy, Rapanui, BeCalmed, Lakeside Spa Hotel, Morgans Restaurant , Pete Jenness, Isle of Wight Campervan Holidays, Body Byrne, Wisteria Gallery and Isle of Wight Adventure Activities.

After a delicious four-course seasonal dinner, guests were entertained by Edana Minghella and band. ‘Edana is captivating and moving in equal parts – it was the perfect end to a very special evening,’ said William Bailey

The monies raised by the evening will go toward the Youth Trust’s ‘Works’ programme which helps and supports young islanders experiencing issues with drugs and alcohol. The High Sheriff, Nick Hayward, gave a speech highlighting the fact that the island has huge pockets of deprivation and some of the worst national statistics for youth drink and drug misuse. He reinforced that is why it’s so important to support the Youth Trust who provide a life saving and life-changing service to young islanders.

If you are a young person experiencing difficulties with drink and drugs and would like to talk to someone please call the Works on 01983 717656. The Youth Trust also have a 24hr answer phone service 01983 529569
