Out and About

A cliff walk past Shanklin Chine takes you to the safe, sandy beach (downhill) and there is a cliff lift to bring you to the top when you are feeling less energetic. A Land Train runs a regular service in peak season, which runs from the Esplanade around the town, past the hotel towards the Old Village and then returns to the Esplanade.

Shanklin is perhaps the largest resort on the Island and the Hotel Clifton is ideally placed to allow easy access to all that the town has to offer. Obviously there is the beautiful beach, but Shanklin also has a busy shopping centre, with specialty shops located in the High Street and Regent Street. There are also stunning walks along the cliff tops to Sandown and a picturesque walk through the Landslip at Luccombe, which takes you towards Bonchurch and Ventnor.

There are facilities and things to do for all ages groups, from crazy golf, water sports at Wight Water, amusement arcades, to walking through the Old Village, ending up at Rylstone Gardens for a cream tea or to listen to the band at the bandstand.

There is Sandown and Ventnor, as well as the County Town of Newport. Shanklin has good access to the rest of the Island by Public Transport. You can jump on the open top bus for a tour of the coastline, ending up at The Needles, or perhaps catch the train to Ryde, where you can go ice skating, ten pin bowling, or walk along the seafront to Puckpool and Seaview
