What can we do on the Island

Our Entrance Hallway If it is your first time on the Island, it can be hard deciding what to do each day.

We have a large selection of leaflets available in our hallway and we also list events that are happening soon. You can see the weather for the next 5 days to help you plan what attractions to visit depending on the weather.

We welcome bikers and walkers to Atholl Court, and aim to provide a service tailored to your needs. More details can be found on our website, including discounts.

Esplanade Shanklin is located at the south east corner of the Island between Sandown and Ventnor. Shanklin is the last stop for the Island Line train service which connects to Ryde Pier Head Ferry Terminal, linking to Portsmouth, and onwards into London and the rest of the Mainland. With a regular bus service, with a stop outside Atholl Court, and the depot which is situated by Somerfield Supermarket in Landguard Road, getting around is simple and cheap.
Shanklin has been a favorite for traditional seaside holidays for many years, mostly because of our award winning beach with clean, clear water. Looking out to The English Channel across The Bay, with views extending to Culver Cliffs and Bembridge Downs. Complimenting the beach we have the Esplanade with Crazy Golf, Mini Golf, amusements and ample car parking. For a better view you can take the cliff side lift which provides easy access to the cliff tops, where the views are even more spectacular.

The seafront is a real attraction for visitors to the town, with a wealth of eating establishments, pubs and the Shanklin Road Train, which also stops outside our door, providing a regular service through the summer months to the town centre and Old Village. The village is extremely pretty and most tourists head to the area for the thatched cottages, traditional village shops and old fashioned tea rooms.

In the heart of The Old Village are several pubs which are attractive and provide good food and a great venue for a lively evening. To the side of The Crab Inn is the start of Shanklin Chine, a deep gorge, formed by a stream over many thousands of years. With a varied display of plants and a visitor museum, it is the ideal place to spend the morning or afternoon. In the evening the waterfalls and woodland are illuminated, The whole Chine taking on a different perspective.

The shopping in Shanklin can be found in two main streets. The High Street and Regent Street. Here you can find some of the usual high street shops along with others selling a varied range of gifts for friends and family.
